Parks and Lakes

Recreational activities are abundant both in and outside of Delavan. Likely, whatever your outdoor desire is, there is a place nearby to do it.

Immediately east and down the hill is a greenbelt that connects to the Rudy Lange Sledding Hill, Springs Park Nature Trail, Vets Park and Mill Pond Swimming Facility, Lake Comus and the Arboretum Nature Trail.

World-class fishing can be found at the east edge of town on highway 50 at the Delavan Township Park boat launch. Delavan Lake has staged a miraculous recovery after a restoration project just over a decade ago. Trophy size musky, northern pike, small and largemouth bass and walleyed pike are caught regularly. Pan fish are unusually large and often caught to the limit. Many more lakes surround Delavan and all are fish producers.

The Kettle Moraine State Park offers hiking, mountain biking, swimming and nature exploring. Bigfoot State Park has an excellent swimming beach and fishing. Kayaking and canoeing are possible on all waters in the area. Lake Comus, on north Terrace Street, is an excellent quiet water recreational area and it teems with wildlife in the upstream marshes. Please refer to the innkeepers for special directions and recommendations on outdoor sports rentals and locations. It’s impossible to list them all.

Excursion boat rides are a delightful way to see Geneva Lake and Delavan Lake. Some rides include elegant dinners but do require advance reservations.

The fun doesn’t stop at the end of summer. Don’t forget the old traditional sports like skating and ice fishing. Both Delavan and Geneva Lakes are well known for iceboating, a supremely eclectic sport. Check out the colorful sails on a windy winter day.

Delavan’s greenbelt, as mentioned above, is loaded with both resident and transient birds. The best viewing areas are near any waterway. A suggested walking route is anywhere between Springs Park and the Arboretum. Just remember, ssshhhhhhhhhhh!

Golf

There are many wonderful golf courses within a twenty miles radius of Delavan. There is also a wide range of green fees. Please refer to the brochures included here or the yellow pages. Delavan’s city course, Delbrook Country Club, the closest and most reasonably priced, is on South Second Street. Lake Lawn Lodge’s course is located on the edge of town adjacent to Geneva Lakes Dog Track and highway 50 east. Fore!
